Roosters sign Son of Tigers' Legend

Sydney Roosters RLFC The Sydney Roosters have today announced the signing of in-demand young half Mitchell Pearce - son of legendary Balmain forward Wayne - for the next two seasons.

Pearce, 16, said playing under NSW Origin coach Ricky Stuart was a major factor in his decision.

“I did have interest from a few clubs but playing under Ricky was a big incentive,” Pearce said.

“The Roosters have a very professional coaching staff.

“I’m keen to keep learning and improving my footy under Ricky and his team.

“It’s a very exciting opportunity for me.”

Roosters CEO Brian Canavan believes Pearce’s size and creativity will make him a dynamic force in the club’s lower grades.

“He’s almost the size of his father, which at 16 is pretty scary,” Canavan said.

“He’s a very robust, creative half.

“He’s unusual in that regard but he has some incredible skills.

“We’re very excited to secure him - Mitchell has a bright future.”

Pearce, a member of this year’s Australian Schoolboys side, will play Jersey Flegg in 2006.

Pearce will complete his HSC at Marist College North Shore next year.

Pearce’s signing comes hot on the heels of exciting rugby union recruit, Anton Lavin, and the re-signing of powerful young forward Shane Shackleton.
