Perfect record continues for Man United

EPL Sunday Night Review

Manchester United has started the season with a perfect record after goals from Wayne Rooney and Ruud van Nistelrooy led them to a 2-0 win against Newcastle at St James' Park. Newcastle are yet to score a goal and have collected just one point as the expectations mount on manager Graeme Souness.

Albert Luque, who Newcastle got from Deportivo La Coruna, put the ball in the back of the net after 13 minutes after United keeper van der Sar blocked a shot from veteran Alan Shearer but Luque was judged offside.

The Red Devils were struggling to make a mark on the match but scored a goal in the 66th minute. Newcastle's centre-half Jean-Alain Boumsong couldn't deal with a van der Sar punt down the pitch and Wayne Rooney latched onto this opportunity and he struck it past Shay Given.

Rooney set up Ruud van Nistelrooy to deal a final blow to Newcastle.

The earlier match saw Charlton maintain their perfect record as they beat Middlesbrough 3-0.

Charlton scored their first after 38 minutes when Dennis Rommedahl got onto a Danny Murphy through-ball and struck it low past Australian shot-stopper Mark Schwarzer.

Murphy set up another goal in the 81st minute after his quick free kick set up Chris Perry who converted and Darren Bent scored the third goal for Charlton and his fourth of the season in injury time.
