The Punting Guru - Week #7

Nic Evans joins us again this weekend for a brief run down on some of the Best Selections available.

Nic Evans, Punting Guru

AFL

Well, well, well, has everyone changed their thoughts on this year's AFL premiership this week?

The West Coast Eagles were outstanding, brutal, fierce and extremely ruthless last week against flag favourites Adelaide. Sure, the Crows might have been flat, tired, two games clear, nothing to really play for. On the other hand they are just excuses, they were D-E-S-T-R-O-Y-E-D!

Even with the rain leading up to the game the Crows seemed unbeatable till they crossed the white line in front of the locals. A wise man once said footy is played above the shoulders. I concur that notion.

Believing in yourself is one thing but when you play a team sport you need to play for one another. That's precisely what the Eagles did emphatically. Simple as that.

It was the first time this year that the Eagles ran for one another and played-on with every given opportunity. Classic football that was simply irresistable to watch.

Nearly tempted to declare that they will not lose another game this year.

Nevertheless, they face the Saints this week who also were just as impressive last week against a weakened Tigers outfit. This game should be a belter of a game and indeed a real tight contest.

The Eagles have brought over Dean Cox, he may just have come over for the trip, or, we may see the game's premier ruckman actually take to the park and release Seaby's workload.

I see a spark in the players eyes which tells me that they will not give in again and take anyone lightly. Which leads me to my selections for this week.

Prediction:
West Coast to win 1- 24 points @ $2.50 seems a good bet.
Double that up into the Cats who travel to Brisbane this week and will be on their last chance, that is good enough for me to suggest Geelong will PLAY
Geelong to steamroll the Lions by 25+ points @ $4.00.

Finally I fancy the Hawks to cause a mini upset against the Dockers, not to win but to get close to Fremantle take the points in (+38.5) @ $1.90.
Fremantle and Hawthorn play a similar brand of football, with both teams over-possessing the pill.

So lets work out the collect;
WCE @ $2.50 (win 1-24 points)
Geel @ $4.00 (win 25+ points)
Haw @ $1.90 (Hcap start+38.5 Points)

--------------
Total: $19 Return

Put as much as you like on the above multi, we should collect.

RACING

Welcome to the new racing season. In coming weeks I will turn my attention towards the Racing so stay tuned.

This week sees a couple of good races in both Melbourne and Sydney.

Caulfield
Bletchingly Stakes - 3:30pm (AEST)
1200m Group 3 WFA
Race 6 -- 6 Bel Danoro @ $7.00

D.Oliver to ride for his old master Lee Freedman. Appeals to me at the price and what seems a rather tricky race to assess.

Rosehill
Missile Stakes 3:10pm (AEST)
1100m Group 3 WFA
Race 6 -- 7 Crimson Reign @ $3.50

High class mare who returns in this WFA Group 3 race.
She always races well fresh and the 1100m suits.
D.Beadman to take the mount for the new breed of trainers surfacing, this time with Jason McLachlan son of Brisbane trainer Bruce.

Until next week ...

Good luck!
