Barnsey rocking with Sydney

A-League Club - Sydney FC Australian rock legend Jimmy Barnes today unveiled the official Sydney FC club song ‘Sydney FC For Me’ at Star City describing the recording of the song as “the most fun he has had in a recording studio”.

Barnes launched the song, written by Barnes and David Lowy, along with Sydney FC’s Socceroo stars Mark Milligan and Alex Brosque.

‘Sydney FC For Me’, complete with film clip, will be played for the first time at Aussie Stadium on Sunday when Sydney FC entertains the Central Coast Mariners in the A-League season opener.

The former Cold Chisel frontman approached Sydney FC with the club song, which has subsequently been recorded, using members of The Cove as back up vocalists.

“It was a lot of fun, probably some of the most fun I’ve had recording a song in the studio. I’m a football fan from way back and to be able to combine my love of football with recording a song I am proud of was great,” said Barnes.

“The song has turned out well and I must say a big thank you to the people in The Cove, who helped sing the vocals. They were great and a big part of what this song is all about.”

“‘Sydney FC For Me’ was written to represent the Sydney FC team, its fans and the steps forward football is taking at the moment. It was different to writing and recording a song because I needed to take into consideration the heart and soul of the Sydney FC, its fans and players and then put it into words,” added Barnes.

Sydney FC plays the Central Coast Mariners in the opening game of the A-League season at Aussie Stadium at 5pm on Sunday afternoon (August 27).
