Mackinnon takes NBL Weekly Honour
Brisbane Bullets forward Sam Mackinnon has been named as the winner of the National Basketball League (NBL)
Philips Player of the Week award for Round 15.
Mackinnon is the second Bullets player in as many weeks to win the award, with team mate Derek Rucker
taking out the honour in Round 14. The Bullets have hit form in recent weeks and currently sit in sixth place
on the Philips Championship ladder with a 4-1 win-loss record in their last five games.
Mackinnon averaged an impressive 18.5 points and 13.0 rebounds and 4.5 assists as the Bullets won both
their Round 15 games.
The 197cm forward recorded his side’s only double-double performance on Wednesday night, with 14 points and
12 rebounds, as Brisbane defeated Cairns 110-107 in an impressive performance at the Brisbane Convention
Centre.
Mackinnon followed that performance up with 23 points, 14 rebounds and five assists as the Bullets recorded
their fourth consecutive win on Sunday, 117-107 over the New Zealand Breakers in New Zealand.
Mackinnon narrowly edged out Gary Boodnikoff (Cairns Taipans) for the weekly honours after the Cairns
forward had three solid Round 15 performances, averaging 24 points, five rebounds and one steal as the Taipans
went 1-2.
