Bogut banks home game-winning buzzer-beater in OT

Australia’s most exciting NBA prospect, Andrew Bogut, has almost single-handedly earned his Milwaukee Bucks a win over a San Antonio Spurs team that they had failed to beat in six of their last seven meetings.

Playing in front of his home crowd in Milwaukee’s Bradley Center, the Australian first scored the tying basket with 14 seconds left in overtime, before hitting the game-winner to end the game in overtime.

The Spurs held the lead at 107-105 with 20 seconds to go before Bogut tied up the game with a lay-up with 14 seconds to spare.

Spurs point guard Tony Parker had a chance to win the game, but failed to make his three-point attempt, giving the Bucks a slim glimmer of hope to win the game in the first overtime.

What happened next turned out to be Bogut’s biggest moment in the NBA thus far.

The number one pick from Australia caught an inbound lob pass in the lane with 0.7 seconds left in overtime and went on to bank home the winner as time expired, the catch-and-shoot coming in one motion.

The game-winner could not have been sweeter as he brought the Milwaukee crowd to a roar while stunning the Western Conference-leading Spurs with a 109-107 victory.

This was the second time Bogut has come up big at the buzzer for the Bucks this season, the first coming on the defensive end with a game-winning block against the Dallas Mavericks on November 29.

Against the Spurs on Tuesday night, Bogut finished with 19 points, shooting at 57 per cent from the field, nine rebounds, including seven on the offensive end, and two blocked shots in just 23 on-court minutes.

What made Bogut’s performance even more inspiring was the fact that he was up against one of the premium big-men and former MVP of the league in the Spurs’ Tim Duncan.

Duncan scored 34 points and pulled down 13 rebounds, but this wasn’t enough to get his team what matters most – a win.

The Bucks also got productive nights out of Maurice Williams, who collected 28 points, five rebounds and four assists in a solid all-around night, and Michael Redd, who added 20 points of his own to go along with his eight rebounds.

The Bucks are currently holding down sixth spot in the Eastern Conference standings and still, at this early stage, have shown enough to look like a playoff-bound team.
