Third-place for Hockeyroos in Argentina
The Australian Women's Hockey team has finished their disappointing four-nations tournament in Argentina on a
high after beating England in the third-place play-off yesterday.
Although the match finished with a 0-0 result after regular time, the Hockeyroos settled for a 5-3 win on
penalty strokes.
However, the competition comes as a stiff wake-up call for Australia, after failing to win a match in their
three round-robin matches.
The Hockeyroos' campaign began on a sour note after falling to Argentina 1-0 in the opening match, followed
by draws against the Netherlands (1-1) and England (2-2).
Argentina defeated the Netherlands 1-0 in the final yesterday.
Following their agonising loss in the gold-medal game in the Champions Trophy two months ago, the
Hockeyroos will be keen to make amends for their insipid effort in Argentina when they front-up in Perth for
a three-Test series against Canada from February 22.
With the Commonwealth Games less than two months away, it's expected the cobwebs will be cleared before
Australia face the music on home soil.
