Fallon makes mark in Final Round
Her team may be out of finals contention, but Sydney Uni Flames captain, Trish Fallon, did everything she
could to try and help her team sneak into the final four this week, and won herself the Price Attack WNBL
Virgin Blue Player of the Week award for the final round.
Finishing the season with nine straight wins, the Flames defeated Bulleen Melbourne and the AIS in the
final round, giving them the best possible chance to make the finals. It wasn’t to be however, with the
Rangers losing to the Capitals on Saturday night and bundling Sydney Uni out of the race.
33-year-old Fallon had 40 points across the weekend, scoring 20 points in each match.
Against the AIS on Wednesday night, she showed no mercy for the young students, top scoring for the match
and shooting at 67%. The Flames won by 45 points, 84-39.
In the Flames’ 77-57 defeat of the Bulleen Melbourne Boomers on Friday night, Fallon show class and
consistency throughout the whole match, finishing with 20 points and three rebounds in 38 minutes. She
steadied her team whenever Bulleen surged and guided them home with plenty to spare.
“It was good to see Trish come back to form and finish the season strongly,” Sydney Uni coach Karen Dalton
said.
“She, along with all our stars, played very well at the end of the season. If only we could have made it
count for the Finals...”
This is the final weekly award for the season. The final Player of the Month award will be announced on
Friday. Players of the Week were announced each Tuesday throughout the season with the 2005/06 League MVP
being presented with a trip for two courtesy of Virgin Blue and the WNBL at the Grand Final on
February 18.
Other players in contention for the award in Round 18 were Rohanee Cox (Townsville), Jenny Whittle
(Canberra), Carly Wilson (Dandenong), Laura Summerton (Adelaide), Sharin Milner (Bulleen Melbourne) and
Deanna Smith (Perth).
