Green-Mundine date set for Sydney

The much anticipated encounter between Australia’s super-middleweight rivals Danny Green and Anthony Mundine will take place on April 19 at Aussie Stadium in Sydney.

Mundine believes the fight will be “one of the biggest events in Australian history, if not the biggest” as promoters expect a sell-out crowd of over 40,000.

The two foes avoided each other this morning as separate press conferences were held at the venue to announce the long awaited showdown.

Mundine said he was looking forward to the clash in Sydney at a stadium where he once amazed rugby league crowds until he perused a career in boxing in 2000.

“I just want to give the fans a great show, a great night, and a great boxing exhibition.” he said.

‘The Green Machine’ is confident going into the fight and is looking forward to settling the score with his long time rival.

“Professionally we have our differences and we've had a lot to say in the past,” he said.

“I'm just happy that we've finally set a date and a venue and the fight's going to be on.

“Anything that Choc says to me I don't take it personal, I don't think he takes anything I say to him personally either.

“It is a great sporting rivalry, he thinks he can win, I think I can win, that's what makes it exciting.”

The latest chapter of the rivalry took place when Mundine’s camp vowed they would never return to Green’s hometown of Perth after ‘The Man’ was pelted with plastic bottles as he was hurried to the locker room of Challenge Stadium last month.

SportingBet.com.au currently has Mundine as $1.65 favourite to win the bout, while Green is considered a $2.20 chance.

Tickets will go on sale on February 22 through Ticketek.
