World Indoor Pairs Champion Kelvin Kerkow proved a class above the 160-strong field in the Gold Coast Winter Carnival easily winning the blue ribbon singles event 25/8 against Victorian Greg Shilling.

Earlier Kerkow won his semi final against former Western Australian Frank Vella 25/9 and whereas Shilling sneaked into the final with a one shot margin 25/24 over Adam Martin from Paradise Point BC.

The 56th Gold Coast Winter Carnival, which runs for 17 days, was once again very successful and played on fast running greens in beautiful winter sunshine.

Carmen Anderson/Rhett Butler won the Mixed Pairs, Sally Hickman, Roger Hanson and Ray Hickman won the Mixed Triples.

The mens events, singles, pairs and fours are split into Open and Over 60s events with hundreds of entries from the southern states and New Zealand.

In the Open Fours the New Zealand team of Brian Baldwin (skip), John Reid, Gary Mounsey and Ian Takirau defeated Rhett Butler (skip), Shannon Gittoes, Mark Thatcher, Steve Piggott 22/19.

In the Over 60s Fours Ray Pickard (skip), Geoff Hawken, Rob Dobbins, Alan Brough defeated Alan Cullen (skip), Laurie Whiteley, Nick Separovich, and Don Fowler 21/18.

Attention on the Gold Coast now turns to the Ladies Winter Carnival, which runs from July 24 to August 5.
