Box Hill Hawks get home in thriller

VFL Wrap - Round 15

Footy '06 @ Sports Australia The Box Hill Hawks (16.12.108) overcame a determined but inaccurate Werribee (13.25.103) at Box Hill City Oval on Saturday.

Werribee were looking to record their fifth consecutive win and it didn’t seem possible at half time when they were down by ten goals, but a stunning second half fight back saw them almost snatch victory from an inconsistent Box Hill side.

John Barker kicked seven goals and was named best on ground in a performance that should see him recalled to the Hawthorn side after experiencing an indifferent season so far that has been affected mainly by injury.

Tasmania (19.15.129) defeated the Casey Scorpions (8.6.54) at Bellerive Oval.

Former North Hobart coach Brendan Bolton was appointed as interim coach following the resignation of Matthew Armstrong and he recorded his first win in charge of the Devils, who have not performed consistently as a team at different times during the season.

Jade Rawlings returned to form as he kicked five goals and Jason Howard was best on ground for the Devils.

North Ballarat (21.13.139) defeated Frankston (13.8.86) at Austar Arena.

North Ballarat have been criticised during the season for their inability to play consistent football at home, but they returned to form against a Frankston side who started this year in great form but have since struggled to put together wins away from home.

Kangaroos listed player Callum Urch kicked seven goals in a best on ground performance.

At Windy Hill, Williamstown (9.11.65) defeated the Bendigo Bombers (7.18.60).

Coming off a bye last week, the Bendigo Bombers were confident of a possible upset over a Williamstown side that has benefited greatly from an almost injury free Collingwood. The idea of an upset almost eventuated, but it was the Seagulls who got over the line by a nail biting five points.

Andrew Williams, Heath Lawry and Patrick Rose all kicked two goals each, with Jason Cloke named best on ground for the Seagulls.

At Trevor Barker Oval, Sandringham (21.11.137) defeated the Coburg Tigers (12.5.77).

Sandringham continued to prove why they can genuinely join a small group of clubs to have won three consecutive VFA/VFL premierships as they completely outclassed a Coburg outfit that has played good, attacking football in recent weeks.

Nick Saunter kicked eight goals and Melbourne listed defender Brad Miller was best on ground for the Zebras.

The Northern Bullants (18.17.125) defeated Port Melbourne (6.8.44) at Teac Oval.

After finally playing some consistent football which included defeating Box Hill at Box Hill City Oval last week, the Borough were expected to least to put up a decent showing against the Bullants but this simply never eventuated.

Digby Morrell kicked six goals in a best on ground performance for the Bullants.

Geelong had a bye this week.
