ARU cancels over a hundred Bledisloe Cup tickets

Australian Rugby The Australian Rugby Union has cancelled over 100 tickets for tomorrow night's blockbuster Bledisloe Cup Test that have been sold by scalpers via online trading sites.

Fans who bought their Bledisloe Cup tickets from scalpers are being warned that there is a good chance their tickets won’t scan at the Suncorp Stadium turnstiles.

The ARU has been aggressively pursuing serial ticket scalpers whose sole motivation for buying Test tickets has been to profiteer at the expense of genuine Rugby fans.

Using private investigators the ARU has tracked down scores of professional scalpers and cancelled their tickets, many of which have been sold for up to five times their face value.

"The Bledisloe Cup is one of the highest demand events in Australian sport," ARU CEO and Managing Director Gary Flowers said.

"We priced the tickets at a level that made the match accessible to families and genuine Rugby fans.

"It is not fair that these fans have missed out because scalpers and profiteers snapped up the tickets the day they went on sale, with the sole aim of flogging them off at a 500 per cent markup."

"We are going to a lot of trouble to crack down on scalpers simply because we want to maximise the chances of genuine Rugby fans to get tickets."
