Tigers continue round of upsets
The Wests Tigers have continued the round of upsets with a surprise 32-24 win over St George-Illawarra at
Oki Jubilee Stadium in Sydney this afternoon.
The news, though, went from bad to worse for the Dragons, halfback Ben Hornby out of an extended period
with a serious knee injury.
The game started off well for the Dragons, from the kick-off the Tigers had a mix-up and from that Ashton
Sims went into score, and after only two minutes it was 6-0.
It didn’t stay that way for long, as only three minutes later, Brett Hodgson made a break and Ben Galea
eventually crossed over and it was 6-4.
The Tigers hit the front in the eighth after a lovely kick by Scott Prince into the in goal area was dived
on by Brett Hodgson to score the Tigers second, and all of a sudden after he converted his own try it was
10-6.
The Tigers then got 16-6 up after Anthony Laffranchi barged over to score a try, and things were looking
bad for the Dragons.
The Tigers went up the tunnel at 22-6 after Benji Marshall scored a try off another grubber kick by Scott
Prince, and the Tigers were very happy.
Halftime didn’t stop the Tigers, because once again Brett Hodgson created a play, got the ball to Pat
Richards who scored the first of the second half and it was 28-6.
Richards picked up his second of the day six minutes later, and even though the Dragons are famous for
there comebacks, it looked like this one would be a bit to big for them as they were down 32-6.
But we know to never write the Dragons off and with nineteen minutes left Ben Creagh crossed and it was
32-12.
With fourteen minutes Corey Payne dived over the line, and all of a sudden the Dragons were back in the
hunt as the score went to 32-18.
But it was all too late for the Dragons, although Michael Ennis crossed with four minutes remaining, the
Tigers ran out winners.
