The Punting Guru - Week #2

A regular on the airwaves on Melbourne's SEN 1116am and contributor for FutureSports, Nic Evans comes to SportsAustralia with his guide to the best bets for this weekend.

Nic Evans, Punting Guru Hope most of you enjoyed the feast of sport being beamed to our living rooms this month.

After watching the Socceroos against Brazil, I hope the monumental build up to that game hasn’t any effect on the players when they step out against Croatia.

Moving aside from the World Cup for a while and closer to home.

With the split round of AFL leaving us with just two games this weekend, It would be wiser just to have a look in rather than have a punt.

As I forecasted last weekend this current round have punched out few surprising results.

So I have to stretch my neck out yet again and tip Carlton to record their third win of the year, against a Kangaroos outfit that is being found out by finishing middle of the rung in the past few years, missing out on those key draft selections. The wheel always turns, and Carlton although not any better might just have the edge in this one.

Saturday night sees the reining premiers Sydney face a resurgent Collingwood, before last weeks out of character display against the Demons, were having full momentum leading up to the midyear mini-break. Don’t tell me the June Colliwobbles are back again for another year!!

Another game too close to call ... Sydney just.

Prediction:

Carlton by 1-24 points to defeat the Kangaroos $3.50
Sydney defeat the Colliwobbles by the same margin (1-24) $3.50

If we multiply the prices we may be able to get just over (10.00) for this particular double.

Good Luck!

Now for the good stuff - Wimbledon.

Wimbledon is back for another year. If it weren’t for the World cup it would be our centre of attention, throughout all media centres, and if The English Soccer team bundle out in the next phase of the World Cup they may just be lenient upon them ... I think NOT! Err ...

Ok folks, Wimbledon 2006. This is it very simple take Federer to win the Mens Tournament into a handful of players in the women's side of the draw.

Players such as Hingis, Clijsters, Henin-Hardenne , and even Venus can pinch another title. Then you have the up and coming “future” champions in Vaidisova, Ivanovic, Safina, Krajicek etc ...

So there you have it a host of chances. I may have missed someone, that’s how open the women's side is. I'm going for a real diamond in the rough amongst them all. Patty Schnyder. She has been thereabouts in major after major, perennial quarter and semi finalist over a long period of time. Yes she may not go all the way again, but if we shop around you may find some betting agencies offering prices on players making the final. I would think she would be close to $51 to reach the final. Close to 125-1 to win it. So that might be the way to go, unless of course you try coupling up Federer in a few ladies as I above mentioned.

Prediction:

I would be taking Schnyder as a real outsider to reach the semis and final. The minimum to reach semis price should be around 10s if you can get it, and to make the final she would be $50s. I like the price I like her game, it is suited to grass. She represents my value in the tournament. Heaven forbid a Swiss double ... can you see the headlines! I can ... Yodellay ... Yodellay ... ee!! You too may join me in yodelling with such a result. We shall see.

The spotlight on Racing this week is up in Brisbane where the feature races are the Winter Stakes for fillies and mares. That’s where my best bet comes up in Miss Potential. She has 58.5kgs to contend with, but she is all class and there isn’t too much to beat in the race. Toughest to beat would be Octupussy, she has a mere 52.5kgs as opposed to the NZ mare.

Hopping across the globe the races at Royal Ascot are into full swing at the moment, During the week we saw Takeover Target salute in a photo there during the week in the King Stand Group 2 Stakes. The other Aussies were not disgraced. Falkirk had trouble finding room in the straight, and Glamour Puss was exceptional in her run to the line. It is quite possible that the Aussie brigade can trifecta the race early Sunday Morning 12:45am (AEST) A real rough chance in the race is Boogie Street, who will strip fitter and had great form last time in, with two runs under his belt he could be the blowout.

Prediction:

EAGLE FARM
Winter Stakes

Miss Potential to win $6.50. Also like the quinella with Octupussy. So take the quinella and couple them up in the exotics, you shouldn’t be too far off.

Royal Ascot in England

Golden Jubilee Group 1 Stakes

Glamour Puss stands out to me she always has a knack of producing a withering finish, and I will declare her a moral. If you can get $9 or better you would already have a profit with her place dividend. Quite possibly Falkirk and Takeover Target can feature yet again in the placings.

F1 Racing this week is in Canada. Early Monday Morning we may just see our own Mark Webber in the firing line yet again. Sources tell me that he is really happy with the Williams car FINALLY!!! Don’t be holding your breath though! Look it could be quite simple to predict Alonso to win yet again. However, I really believe the Ferrari Team have gotten their act together and look very strong lately. I cannot denounce Michael Schumacher’s chances of another title, he remains my clear top pick.

Prediction:

Schuey to lead them a merry dance $3.00 or better. Michael Schumacher can notch up maximum points in this and keep his title aspirations in tact.

Finally turning the attention back to the World Cup, I feel an upset is on the cards with Sweden to upstage the locals, in front of over 80,000 screaming fans early Sunday Morning.

Value Bet of the Week:

Sweden to upset Germany and progress through to the next stage. The game could possibly go into extra time so take the early odds on Sweden progressing to Qtr Finals $4.50 or better.
