Gold for Australian Women in Gymnastics
Australia tonight has secured their third-successive gold medal in the Women's
Team Gymnastics at the Commonwealth Games, comfortably finishing ahead of
England and Canada.
The Australians - Monette Russo, Ashleigh Brennan, Hollie Dykes, Naomi
Russell and Chloe Sims - finished with a final score of 172.600, 8.25 points
ahead of silver-placed England (164.350) and bronze-placed Canada (162.550).
Strong performances on the beam, particularly by Dykes and Russo, helped
propel Australia's points score, while consistent scores on the vault, uneven
bars and floor were enough to secure the gold.
Australia's best performer Dykes was obviously thrilled after her strong
performance and gold medal.
"I think it's very exciting - especially for my first comp," Dykes said.
"It was really exciting, it just lifted me."
