Kookaburras continue unbeaten run

Commonwealth Games 2006 @ Sports Australia The Australian men’s hockey team has continued their unbeaten run in the Commonwealth Games preliminary rounds, comprehensively dismantling the Canadian side 5-1 at the State Netball and Hockey Centre.

The Kookaburras supremacy was never in doubt, with three first half goals all but ending the game as a contest.

Two goals each to forward Michael McCann and Bevan George up from defence were the highlights for the Australians, while Nathan Eglington added his own touch on the match with a goal of his own.

The only goal to the Red and Whites came off the stick of defender Paul Wettlaufer, running down from defence in the second half.

The Kookaburras continued their good run of form, following on from its victory over Scotland two nights ago at the same venue, with the exact same scoreline as seen tonight.

The Australians will turn to their clash with England on Tuesday night, which will be followed by the finals – with the home side looking to land their third consecutive Commonwealth Games gold medal.

FINAL SCORE:

AUSTRALIA   5 (Michael McCann 2, Bevan George 2, Nathan Eglington)

CANADA   1 (Paul Wettlaufer)

Group A match. 19/03/2006. State Netball and Hockey Centre.
