Success for Mark and Rahman in Skeets pairs
Australian shooting pair Lauren Mark and Natalia Rahman stood strong after some nervous moments to score their
second successive Commonwealth Games Gold Medal in today's women's skeets pairs.
With Mark's husband Russell notching Gold of his own yesterday, it was up to her to add to the family’s
trophy cabinet.
The pair began the final round with a handy lead ahead of their England and New Zealand rivals, but some
poor shots forcing the round down to the wire – the Australian pair forced to look for perfection in their
shots.
The two held their nerve, going on to record a two shot victory, with Cyprus coming from behind to take
Silver.
Although seen as Australia’s greatest challenger for the Gold, the Cyprians began their tilt at the title
in slow fashion, before mounting a late charge through Andri Eleftheriou and Louiza Tehophanous to take second
place.
Mark said later that the pressure took its toll during the final stages of the round.
"It's just such a relief. I don't think I could have gone in with any more pressure," said Mark.
"I definitely felt the most nervous I ever felt in my entire career," she said.
The win at Lilydale saw the Australians notch their sixth Gold Medal, with five coming from the first four
days.
