Australian Sevens head to Hong Kong and Singapore

Australian Rugby The Australian Rugby Sevens team will make the most of their Commonwealth Games experience as they head into the Hong Kong Sevens this weekend and the Singapore Sevens next weekend.

The team landed in Hong Kong today without the Wallaby stars who helped them into the Commonwealth Games Semi Finals in front of a world record crowd in Melbourne.

Coach Glen Ella has named two debutants, Tim Harrington and Rod Petty, and recalled six familiar faces in the form of Viliame Ratu, Matthew Bell, Michael Black, Luke Milton, Mark Gilbride and Ant Sauer.

Commonwealth Games players Shawn Mackay, Josh Gamgee, Damon Murphy and Nick Reily round out the team. Luke Inman was unavailable for selection due to his commitments to his medical studies.

"We are looking to make the most of our Commonwealth Games experience and use what we did there to improve in the next two rounds," Ella said.

"Cracking the semi finals is a goal we have set ourselves and while we don't have our Wallaby stars on deck in Hong Kong and Singapore, the Commonwealth Games has definitely given us a new level of confidence and self-belief."
