NRL comments on Cayless, Hindmarsh
The National Rugby League has reviewed a report from the Parramatta club in relation to the conduct of Nathan
Cayless and Nathan Hindmarsh at Star City Casino.
Having both read the report and having confirmed its contents with the Casino, the NRL is satisfied with
the actions of the Parramatta club.
“As much as the game needs to take a strong stand on behaviour, it is also important to be able to
differentiate between the relative seriousness of issues when they come to light,” NRL Chief Executive
Mr David Gallop said today.
“It’s also important to take into account the positive contribution a player may have made to the game over
a long period in judging an appropriate outcome.
“Such reputations are to be valued and should be something younger players strive to gain.
“Unfortunately, players also need to remember that you only normally get the benefit of that once in a
career and Parramatta have made this fact clear in this instance.”
In examining the incident, the NRL noted that no members of the public were affected, that Nathan Cayless
both apologised to the Casino Management and paid for damage to a piece of surveillance equipment (total cost
around $100), and that Nathan Hindmarsh had been complimented by the casino for the way he had reacted after
the incident.
