Cattalini collects NBL Weekly Award
Cairns Taipans forward Martin Cattalini has taken out the National Basketball League’s (NBL) Philips Player
of the Week award for Round 10.
Cattalini led the Taipans charge as his side collected two strong victories at the weekend. The Snake star
opened Round Ten with an amazing 38 points, nine rebounds and three assists in the Taipans 14-point win over archrivals the Brisbane Bullets, 129-115.
The 200cm forward followed that performance up 24 hours later as Cairns rolled the ever-improving Hunter
Pirates 98-90 at Newcastle Entertainment Centre. Cattalini again topped the scoring with another solid performance collecting 24 points, four rebounds and one assist.
Cattalini, a 12-year veteran of the NBL and seasoned international, averaged 31.0 points, 7.5 rebounds and
two assists in his side’s back-to-back victories and moved Cairns into fourth place on the Philips
Championship ladder.
Cattalini narrowly edged out Brisbane’s Bobby Brannen for the weekly honour. Brannen averaged 25 points,
11 rebounds and one assist for the Bullets as his side went 1-1 for Round Ten of the Philips Championship.
Another notable mention for the week was West Sydney’s newly-signed Pero Vasiljevic. The athletic big man
played his first game for the Pigs in the 2005/06 Philips Championship, recording two double-double games.
With 15 points and ten rebounds against New Zealand, the big-man then backed up with 21 points and 12
rebounds as the Pigs narrowly lost to competition front-runners the Adelaide 36ers.
Other players in the running for the Philips Player of the Week award for Round Ten included Larry
Davidson (Hunter), Michael Hill (Brisbane), Shawn Redhage (Perth), Cortez Groves (Wollongong), John Rillie
(Townsville), Chris Anstey (Melbourne), Willie Farley (Adelaide), Jacob Holmes (Adelaide), Jason Smith
(Sydney), James Harvey (West Sydney), Ben Pepper (New Zealand) and David Bailey (Perth).
For winning the Philips Player of the Week award this round, Cattalini will receive a Philips Shoqbox, the
new tiny personal sound system designed for people that love to share their music experience with others.
