Ballinger takes out NBL Weekly Honour


NBL Philips Championship Wollongong Hawks forward Adam Ballinger has been rewarded for his outstanding recent form taking line honours in the National Basketball League’s (NBL) Philips Player of the Week award.

Ballinger was impressive in his side’s two Round 13 clashes, collecting one win and one loss and cementing the Hawks fourth place on the Philips Championship ladder.

Ballinger averaged 30.0 points, 16.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.0 steal in the Hawks two matches, including an outstanding 39-point and 16-rebound game against the Cairns Taipans on Sunday.

The 205cm Hawk narrowly edged out team-mate Cortez Groves for Player of the Week honours after Groves took the weekly honour in Round 11. Ballinger finished the round with two impressive double-double performances.

Ballinger led his side to a 115-91 victory over the Razorbacks on Saturday bagging 21 points, 16 rebounds and two assists as his side recovered from a slow start against the Pigs at Sydney Olympic Park Sports Centre.

Less then 24 hours later Ballinger drained six threes on his way to a game-high 39 points against the Taipans, shooting at 67 per cent from outside the arc. Ballinger was defiant throughout the match as his side went down 94-93 to the Taipans, collecting 16 rebounds and two assists to accompany his 39-point haul.

As runner-up, Groves averaged 25.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and six assists for the Hawks.

Other players in the running for the Philips Player of the Week award for Round 13 included Scott McGregor (West Sydney) John Rillie (Townsville), Larry Abney (Townsville), Bobby Brannen (Brisbane), Mark Bardtke (Brisbane), Chris Burgess (Cairns), Darnell Mee (Cairns), Aaron Trahair (Hunter), Mike Helms (Hunter), Brant Bailey (New Zealand), Chris Anstey (Melbourne), Dave Thomas (Melbourne), Shawn Redhage (Perth), Jason Smith (Sydney), Brett Maher (Adelaide) and Dusty Rychart (Adelaide).

For winning the Philips Player of the Week award this round, Ballinger will receive a Philips Shoqbox, the new tiny personal sound system designed for people that love to share their music experience with others.
