Reds down Japan

Queensland Reds The Queensland Reds defeated Japan 29-22 at Tokyo National Stadium on Friday night.

Caleb Brown, Andrew Brown, Henari Veratau and Peter Hynes all scored tries while Clinton Schifcofske kicked three conversions and one penalty.

The Reds were on the wrong side of a 19-6 penalty count, forcing them to work hard to stay in the game.

Schifcofske was steady in his first game for the Reds, playing the full 80 minutes and running the ball well.

Stand outs for the Reds include skipper John Roe, flanker David Croft and flyhalf Peter Hynes.

Veratau also shone playing in the centres for the first time under new coach Eddie Jones and schoolboy prodigy Quade Cooper impressed when he came on as a replacement.

Jones was pleased the team stuck out a tough match to take the win.

"The opposition worked really hard at the breakdown to slow our ball down and make it difficult for us," Jones said.

"It was a tough match and a good one to win."

Jones was also pleased with the performance of new recruit Schifcofske in his first game for the Reds.

"Clinton was steady all match. It was a great experience for him and he'll improve as he goes along."

The team arrives back in Brisbane on Sunday morning.
