Roar accepts Bleiberg resignation
In the wake of Saturday night’s defeat to Adelaide United, Queensland Roar Coach Miron Bleiberg has resigned from his position of Head Coach.
The following quotes can be attributed to Miron Bleiberg and Queensland Roar FC CEO, Mr Lawrence Oudendyk.
Miron Bleiberg
“Last Thursday, prior to the game against Adelaide United, I handed a conditional resignation to the CEO of Queensland Roar. The condition was that if we did not achieve a positive result against Adelaide then I would withdraw from my position.
“Following the loss to Adelaide I offered my resignation from the post of Head Coach of Queensland Roar FC which was accepted by the Board and Management of the club.
“At the start of the season I made a commitment to the club that we would achieve finals football by finishing in the top four of the Hyundai A-League. Although the club is still well in contention for this and currently lies in fourth place, I feel that in recent times we have been heading in the wrong direction and our results have reflected this.
“Changes are required to continue the progress we have made and motivate the team to secure that top four place. By taking this action I sincerely hope that it will help the club to reignite their season and achieve what we all wanted to achieve from the start of the year. If it does, then I will be happy in the knowledge that I played my part in that and made a significant contribution to that success.
“The club is regarded by many as one of the best run clubs in the Hyundai A-League and this is with good reason. Both myself and the players were given all the ingredients for success and everything we asked for was provided to us.
“I would like to emphasise that this matter has been handled in a gentlemanly fashion by both parties and I wish the players, fans, management and staff of Queensland Roar FC, as well as my successor, all the very best for the future.”
Lawrence Oudendyk
“With deep regret the Board of Queensland Roar FC have accepted the resignation of Head Coach Miron Bleiberg.
“The recent results of the team have seen us slip down the Hyundai A-League ladder and Miron has made this decision in order to assist the club in achieving our stated goal of finals football.
“Along with the Chairman and Board of Directors of Queensland Roar FC, I would like to place on record my gratitude and thanks to Miron Bleiberg for all the hard work he has put into our club, not just since its inception, but also during the application process to the Hyundai A-League and beyond.
“Miron has been pivotal in creating a persona and profile for Queensland Roar and it is accurate to say that we would not be what we are today without his dedication, energy and commitment.
“The club will hold a Board meeting tonight when the issue of a replacement will be discussed. A further statement will be issued in due course.”
