Jackson back in the WNBL groove

Price Attack WNBL Canberra Capitals centre, Lauren Jackson, has opened the Price Attack Women’s National Basketball League (WNBL) season in sizzling form, scoring 39 individual points and taking out the Player of the Week award in the process.

In the first round of the 2005/06 season, Jackson came out firing, playing 28 minutes at the AIS Arena against the Australian Institute of Sport.

The 195cm superstar pulled down nine rebounds, had five assists and shot her 39 points at 60%.

“Lauren Jackson is the best player in the world, and she proved that on Saturday night,” Capitals coach Carrie Graf said.

Players of the Week will be announced every Tuesday throughout the season with the 2005/06 League MVP being presented with a trip for two courtesy of Virgin Blue and the WNBL at the end of the season.

Other players in contention for the award this week were Rohanee Cox (Townsville), Natalie Porter (Sydney Uni), Jennifer Screen (Adelaide), Katrina Hibbert (Bulleen Melbourne) and Carly Wilson (Dandenong).
