Rookie Finnigan named Player of the Week
Perth Lynx rookie Jasmine Finnigan has started off her Price Attack Women’s National Basketball League (WNBL)
career in fine form, earning herself the Round 4 Virgin Blue Player of the Week award.
In the two weekend games Finnigan shot 73% from the field, poured in 33 points, eight rebounds, three
assists and two blocked shots as her team split the weekend pair.
On Friday night, Finnigan turned in an all-around good performance as she scored 11 points, pulled down
three rebounds, as well as adding a blocked shot in a hard fought loss against the Canberra Capitals at
Southern Cross Stadium.
On Sunday evening, Finnigan helped her team recover to defeat the Adelaide Fellas by scoring 22 points,
grabbing five rebounds and adding two assists on way to an 84-76 victory.
The 184cm forward has played only four games in the WNBL but is far from a basketball rookie. The 27 year
old is a veteran of the SBL showing the benefit of more than 250 State League games.
Finnigan was not only captain of the Perth Stirling Senators (SBL), but was also their go to person. Her
great play in the SBL maybe part of the reason her WNBL success is no surprise to SBL General Manager, Dave
Eckhart.
“It doesn’t surprise me that she is doing well, what does surprise me is that it has taken this long for
Jasmine, to get to the elite level” said Dave Eckhart, General Manager of the SBL.

Lynx coach, Paul O’Brien couldn’t be happier with his new forward, “ I’m extremely impressed with Jasmine,
she brings a tremendous work ethic every time she steps on the court. She works extremely hard at both ends of
the court and never takes a backward step from any challenge. I believe that she will be a part of the Perth
Lynx for a long, long time.”
“I’m very proud of her as I’m sure the rest of her team-mates are and were full of congratulations for her
being named the player of the week, and deservedly so.”
Players of the Week will be announced every Tuesday throughout the season with the 2005/06 League MVP being
