Force to open 2007 Super 14 season at Subiaco

Western Force The Western Force will open its 2007 Super 14 season against the Highlanders at Subiaco Oval on Friday February 2.

The match will be the first of seven games the Force will play at home, one more than in 2006, and is sure to be an exciting encounter after the Highlanders’ three point win in Dunedin in April.

Other home fixtures include a visit by the Queensland Reds and the 2006 competition runners-up, the Hurricanes.

In contrast to 2006, the Western Force will travel to South Africa early in the season, and finish the year with two home games, against the Cheetahs and the Blues, respectively.

The Western Force beat the Cheetahs in the 2006 season and will be keen avenge their big loss to the Blues in April this year.

Force coach John Mitchell said there was no such thing as an easy draw but the 2007 fixtures would mean less time on the road.

“It’s a big improvement on 2006 – we’re in Australia for a much longer period and we are only outside the country for a fortnight on a couple of occasions,” Mitchell said.

“Our biggest challenge will be the road trip to Hamilton (Chiefs) and Christchurch (Crusaders) followed by the Brumbies in Canberra on the way home.”
