Kangaroos get home in a Classic
The Australian Kangaroos have pulled off a miracle win against New Zealand in the second test played at
Telstra Dome on Saturday night.
The Kangaroos scored two tries in the last five minutes to snatch victory from the hands of the Kiwis
20-15.
The Kiwis looked set to have a comfortable win after Stacey Jones kicked a field goal with eight minutes
left on the clock to give the away side a seven-point lead. Looks were deceiving however and no one at the
stadium was ready for the brilliance that was to come, in the dieing stages.
Hometown hero, Greg Inglis had the crowd of 30,732 cheering from their seats with his second try in the
75th minute. The try was scored from a magnificent 60-metre solo run before fending off Kiwi full back
Brent Webb and scoring right under the black dot. Jonathan Thurston converted the try to bring it back to
one point and give the Aussies some hope.
Mark Gasnier was the hero, finishing off a run of play for the Kangaroos that had the Kiwi’s all over
the place. Gasnier scored and it was then converted by Thurston to give the Aussies the lead with
just a minute left on the clock.

The Aussies took a 6-4 lead into the main change after a Greg Inglis try just before the break saw the
Aussies shoot to the lead.
The game lived up to all expectations and was a very physical contest from the start. The Kiwi’s
starting the better side before the Kangaroos gained confidence and were too strong down the home stretch
when Gasnier and Inglis put the score on the board.
The video referee decisions did not go in favor of the Aussies either with the video referees being
called on four times for the Aussies and twice for Matt King only to be denied what looked to be a likely
try.
Iosia Soliola scored two second half tries to put the Kiwi’s in a strong position to win a very
important game in the context of the series and the New Zealanders attempt to defend there Tri-nations
crown.
The crowd erupted at the end of what was a better spectacle then what was being predicted. The Aussies
winners in a classic game of Rugby League.
