Redbacks deny Bushrangers early points

Cricket '06 @ Sports Australia A fruitful last session has hoisted South Australia moderately out of trouble at stumps on day two of their Pura Cup encounter against Victoria in Adelaide on Saturday.

Guided by the efforts of captain Darren Lehmann and Cam Borgas, the Redbacks recovered from 4-70 to post 5-191 by the close of play; 194 runs in arrears of the Bushrangers’ declared first innings total of 6-385.

Lehmann remained unbeaten at stumps on 75 (87 deliveries), while Borgas scored 66 in a fifth-wicket partnership that yielded 121 runs.

Openers Matthew Elliott (19) and Shane Deitz (23) pushed the score to 33 without loss, before both fell in the space of 17 runs to leave the home side sitting at 2-50.

Spin pair Shane Warne and Cameron White then accordingly removed both Mark Cosgrove (5) and Callum Ferguson (6) caught-and-bowled to leave South Australia struggling at 4-70.

Warne has 2-65 off 17 overs in the spin-friendly conditions at stumps, while White picked up one scalp in his brief two-over spell.

Earlier in the day, Victoria resumed on their overnight total of 5-244, adding 1-144 before declaring after lunch.

Keeper Adam Crosthwaite (72no) shared in stands of 70 with Andrew McDonald (88) and 86 (unbroken) with Jon Moss (43no) to propel the Bushrangers to 6-385, after being 4-122 on the first day.
