Fevola Sent Packing

Footy '06 @ Sports Australia Brendan Fevola has been sent home from the international rules series currently taking place in Ireland between Australia and the Irish.

Fevola is being questioned by police in Galway about a physical altercation he was believed to have on Saturday night after Australia’s eight-point loss to Ireland.\

A disciplinary panel made up of Andrew Demetriou (CEO), Adrian Andreson (AFL operations manger), Brendon Gale (AFL players association chief executive), Kevin Sheedy (Australian coach) as well as the Australian captain for the last game, Dustin Fletcher were those who decided that the Carlton spearheads actions warranted him being sent home from the series.

Mr. Demetriou saying that Brendan Fevola would be immediately removed from Australia's international rules tour party in Ireland and sent home after the player had been involved in an incident in a Galway nightclub in the early hour of Monday October 30 2006, Dublin time.

"The incident occurred at the bar and involved some very verbal and threatening language from Brendan Fevola to the barman," Demetriou said.

"The barman sought to stop serving drinks to Brendan Fevola and then when Brendan wasn't pleased with that the barman then endeavored to call security at which point in time Brendan became quite angry and an assault occurred … not with a fist, but by way of a headlock.”

"The hotel management was very angry as was the barman and the police were involved and got called and Brendan was escorted back (to the Radisson SAS Hotel at 11:30pm).”

"We have investigated and have spoken to Brendan and other players who were there and of course the barman, the hotel itself and other members of the hotel and the police have also been spoken to again today (Monday).”

"They were advised by us that we would continue our investigation and we've spent the better part of the day doing that and this evening we convened the disciplinary committee which was set up to deal with any incidents that happened on tour."

"Brendan, at this stage, subject to finding out if the police want to take this action any further - because they are also waiting to hear what we've done - will be going home immediately and that will probably be tomorrow, subject to what the police want to do."

Carlton CEO Michael Malouf confirmed the situation saying there were still details to be confirmed, “We have been made aware of the incident but are not fully aware of all the details. We do understand the AFL Disciplinary Committee has met on this matter and understand the decision that has been made and that Brendan has apologised for his actions and will not be continuing with the team in Ireland.”
