Chief Motor Sports writer and AFL reporter for Sports Australia, Nick Smart graduated from the Gold Coast's The Southport School in 2002 and went on to Griffith University to pursue his lifelong dream of working as a sports journalist. He is currently an off-campus 3rd year student in the Bachelor of Communication degree majoring in Journalism and Public Relations.

Nick got his start in writing at the age of 13 when he was writing a weekly column for a WWF wrestling website. Since then, as well as writing for SportsAustralia.com, Nick - a passionate Magpies supporter living deep in enemy territory - has written countless articles for various Collingwood websites, including: Nick's Collingwood Page, Collingwood365.com and Collingwoodforever.net. Recently, he also wrote a feature article that was published in the popular independent Collingwood magazine, Hot Pies.

In late 2004, Nick began his "official" media career at The Gold Coast Bulletin. He is working as a copy person in the editorial department where he performs a variety of different tasks and learns about every facet of the newspaper. The job is a pathway to a cadetship at the newspaper, where Nick then hopes to slot into the sports department.

It is Nick's dream to one day be sitting in the media box at the MCG covering the Grand Final, and to be one day be flying overseas to cover an Olympic Games for an Australian newspaper or TV station.
