European Wrap Fourth Edition

In Scottish Premier League action this weekend Celtic came from behind to beat Inverness Caledonian Thistle and ensured that the leaders Hearts are kept in check.

Dennis Wyness had given Inverness the lead shortly before half-time, however Craig Beattie's quick-fire brace (57 and 67) rescued three points for Celtic.

Other results were Motherwell 1-3 Hibernian; Kilmarnock 1-1 Falkirk; Dunfermline 2-1 Dundee Utd; Aberdeen 0-0 Livingston; Hearts 1-0 Rangers.

In the Italian Serie A Inter kept the pressure on leaders Juventus as they secured a well-deserved 1-0 win over Fiorentina.

Inter remain three points behind Juventus and exemplified their winning qualities in an impressive display against Fiorentina.

Nigerian starlet Obafemi Martins opened the scoring for Inter after just seven minutes as he converted Luis Figo's cross from close range when unmarked in the box.

The goal was controversial as Adriano appeared to be in an offside position during his input to the build-up, although Fiorentina could have no qualms about the result as they dropped to third in the table after only hanging on to a one-goal deficit due to the consistent excellence of French keeper Sebastian Frey.

Other results were Reggina 2-0 Udinese; Parma 1-2 Juventus; Cagliari 0-0 Roma; Empoli 1-0 Lecce; Lazio 4-2 Palermo; Livorno 2-0 Ascoli; Sampdoria 1-2 Chievo; Siena 4-2 Messina; Treviso 0-2 Milan.

In the Spanish La Liga Real Madrid's resurgence continued with a 3-0 win against Alaves.

Victory over Athletic Bilbao in midweek eased some of the pressure on coach Wanderley Luxemburgo and his fellow countryman Ronaldo handed the Brazilian tactician a further fillip.

The speedy striker netted twice in the second half, with Guti adding a third in injury time, to hand Real three points moving them up to third in the table.

Real had Iker Casillas to thank for keeping them in the game, as he made a string of saves in the first half before Luxemburgo's men took charge after the interval.

The opener came from the right boot of Ronaldo, who rifled an effort into the top corner from the edge of the box. Alaves were frustrated in their efforts to fashion an equaliser and the stuffing was knocked out of them eight minutes from time, as Ronaldo netted his second of the game following quality build-up play from the impressive David Beckham.

Guti wrapped up the win with a close-range finish in injury time, as Real kicked into gear ahead of a UEFA Champions League meeting with Olympiakos.

Other results were Atl Madrid 0-1 Getafe; Espanyol 1-2 Villareal; Real Zaragoza 1-1 Deportivo; Valencia 2-1 Real Sociedad; Real Betis 1-4 Barcelona; Osasuna 2-0 Cadiz; Mallorca 1-4 Malaga; Athl Bilbao 0-0 R Santander; Celta Vigo 2-1 Sevilla.

In the French Ligue 1 Paris Saint Germain missed the chance to go to the top of the table following a goalless draw with Le Mans.

Other results were Monaco 0-0 Nice; Auxerre 3-0 Sochaux; Bordeaux 1-0 AC Ajaccio; Lille 2-0 St Etienne; Marseille 3-1 Metz; Nancy 2-1 Troyes; Strasbourg 2-4 Toulouse; Nantes 0-1 Lyon; Lens 0-0 Rennes.

In the German Bundesliga Bayern Munich's 100 percent record disappeared as they went down 2-0 to second place Hamburg.

Inspired by the brilliant Dutchman Rafael van der Vaart, Hamburg are now just one point behind Bayern at the top.

Van der Vaart opened the scoring just 10 minutes into the match and the second arrived just after the hour mark through Piotr Trochowski.

Other results were Arminia B 0-2 B M'gladbach; FSV Mainz 1-1 Borussia Dortmund; MSV Duisberg 1-0 Nurnberg; Schalke 2-0 Hanover 96; W Bremen 2-1 B Leverkusen; Wolfsburg 1-0 E.Frankfurt; Cologne 0-1 Hertha Berlin; Stuttgart 1-0 Kaisersltrn.

In the Dutch Eredivisie a brace from Romeo Castelen gave Feyenoord a 3-1 victory over strugglers Twente Enschede.

The Holland international gave Feyenoord a half time lead before doubling his tally a minute after the break.

Twente's Ramon Zomer made the match a contest with five minutes remaining before Dirk Kuyt made sure of the points with a late third goal.

Feyenoord have now taken maximum points from their first six matches to go to the top of the table.

Other results were Willem II 1-0 ADO Den Haag; RKC Waalwijk 2-3 Utrecht; Vitesse 2-0 Groningen; Ajax 4-1 Roda JC Kerk; NAC Breda 2-1 AZ Alkmaar; S Rotterdam 2-0 Heracles Almelo; PSV 2-0 Roosendaal.
