Salopek signs with Port for a further two years

Footy '05 @ Sports Australia Talented midfielder Steven Salopek has agreed to a new two-year contract with the Port Adelaide Football Club, which will see him remain in Power colours until at least the end of the 2007 season.

Salopek, 20, was touted as one of the ‘stars’ of the 2002 National Draft when he was taken by the Power with the no. 6 selection.

Power General Manager – Football Operations, Peter Rohde, said the club was very pleased for Steven to sign on with the club.

“Steven is a quality person and player and we were always confident of him staying with the club. He is a talented young midfielder with great potential. To date injury and illness hasn’t allowed Steven to achieve what we think he can, but we are looking forward to his progression over the coming years,” Rohde said.

Salopek said he is extremely happy to be staying with the club.

“It’s fantastic to have signed,” he said.

“Obviously I looked at all of my options, but I’m confident of where the club is heading and what role I can play at the club, and I’m very happy to be staying with Port Adelaide.”

Salopek has played 26 AFL games in his three years with the club, including six this year and the first 11 games in 2004 before being diagnosed with glandular fever.
