Egan Out of Waratahs Tour Opener

NSW Waratahs Back rower Tom Egan has been ruled out of Thursday’s NSW Waratahs Development Tour opener against Saracens A through injury.

Egan strained his right ankle during the team’s final training run in St. Albans, north of London. His place in the starting side has been taken by Parramatta’s Pelea Afu.

“Tom was still a chance of playing however we decided it was best not to risk it so early in the tour,” co-coach Les Kiss said.

“Hopefully he’ll respond to treatment over the next 48 hours or so and be back in the frame for the Northampton game (on Monday),” he added.

Egan’s injury was the only downside to an otherwise positive session, the team’s preparations for the Saracens match now complete.

Young guns Dean Mumm and Daniel Halangahu will be given their first taste of leadership in the match, with Mumm named captain and Halangahu his vice captain.
