WNBL announces Ambassadors

WNBL Defence Jobs Championship The Defence Jobs Women’s National Basketball League (WNBL) is proud to announce the ambassadors for the 2006/07 season, which runs from October 6 to February 17.

The Ambassadors Program is an initiative that aims to assist the League in achieving a positive and professional public image for athletes and the sport.

Facilitated by the WNBL, the program enlists the support of eight WNBL Ambassadors (one per team) over the course of the season.

Each WNBL Ambassador becomes the key player representative for their team, making various promotional appearances throughout the season and assisting the club to establish and maintain vital links to the local community.

The eight WNBL teams and their ambassadors are:

Adelaide: 21-year old WNBA star, 2006 Commonwealth Games gold medalist and Opals world champion Erin Phillips.

AIS: 18-year old University of Canberra student Jaimee Kennedy.

Bulleen: 22-year old 2005 International Player of the Year, 2006 Commonwealth Games gold medalist and Opals world champion Hollie Grima.

Canberra: 34-year old WNBA regular, WNBL legend, 2006 Commonwealth Games gold medalist and Opals world champion Tully Bevilaqua.

Dandenong: 28-year old WNBL loyalist (12 seasons), 2006 Commonwealth Games gold medal winner and Opals world champion Emily McInerny.

Perth: 21-year old WA native Melissa Marsh, sister of cricketer Shaun Marsh.

Sydney University: 25-year old Olympic silver medalist Natalie Porter.

Townsville: 19-year old Gems star and Opals squad member Renae Camino.

The WNBL will maintain the “Feel the Attitude” theme for the upcoming season and be broadcast live on Friday nights on ABC2, replayed on Saturday afternoons on ABC TV.
